Title: From Up Above Date: 9/7/16 Description: For this assignment we were told to take a picture of a tree from a unique perspective. I had decided to climb into a tree and take a downward-perspective, seeing as most people don't see trees from this point of view.
Title: Pinwheel for Peace Description: The pinwheel that I had made for the assignment was to depict what I am represented by in nature, what I think will make peace in the future, signs that represent peace and or related subjects, and include a quote about peace. Yin Yang sign (balance/unity), Peace sign (peace), Dove with Olive Branch (peace restored), and the Egyptian Ankh (life). The tree depicted on the pinwheel represents me as a person in this crazy world because I am a strong mined and rooted person. On the pinwheel, you will also find a quote from Jimi Hendrix that I think would help lead to world peace if people simply followed it. Along with that, I think that love, unity, and acceptance will lead to peace in the future.
Title: The American Description: As a contribution to the Grateful Nation project, I wanted to create a picture depicting a soldier within the US Armed Forces. This particular soldier is a young African-American female. She is meant to represent how much America has changed, because in the past, African-Americans, let alone women, were not seen equally or allowed in the Armed Forces. But in today's world, men and women, of any race, can serve and protect the US and others in need. Therefore, I am grateful to live in a nation such as this.
Title: Forgotten Treasures Description: Color wheels are important tools that are relevant in every piece of art. Although colors serve a purpose, they need to have variety in design. (A circle cut like a pie can get quite boring.) This assignment's purpose was to re-invision the color wheel yet manage to keep the same colors from a traditional wheel. P.S.-The piece is named Forgotten Treasures because people forget to appreciate the beauty of color and the way that so many colors can blossom out of two or more mixed colors.
Title: Lire et écrire celui Description: We as art students were told to design a silhouette depicting an action. My silhouette is reading a book underneath a tree. It was easy to come up with an action an to draw it. But cutting out the silhouette and getting it into the toilet paper role were stressful to say in the least. (Don't worry, I'm happy with my piece of art.)
Title: The New Kingdom Description: As part of a project "A Walk Through Art History," I was to design a shoe with the works of a specific art period. If you could not already tell, I chose Egyptian art; specifically New Kingdom. On the shoe, I painted King Tut's coffin cover and a pot. Then I used a special ink pen to write hieroglyphics and drew Nefertiti and her subjects worshipping the sun.
Title: Hidden Pictures Description: After using a straw to blow around water-downed paint, I discovered interesting images. In this particular picture, I see a dragon fly in the center, a small jelly fish in the top right corner, a seahorse to the right and a sea urchin in the upper left corner.
Title: Flight of the Dragon Fly Date: 11/01/16 Description: After completing the straw painting above I was told to find images in the paint. It was not long before I could see a dragonfly. To make the image of the dragonfly more clear I used colored pencils and outlined the image as I had seen it. After looking at the outline, I then went to had different colors throughout the whole composition. Now that I mentioned the word composition, what makes this piece a composition? The answer to that is that this piece is complete with balance, contrast, and movement. Nothing within this composition overpowers the other (balance), the images within the composition vary in size and shape (contrast), and when looking at the composition, one eye follows clockwise starting at the dragonfly.
Title: Momentary Existence Description: After practicing quite a few times on still life drawings, the time finally came for a final drawing. Pictured above is the final sketch compared to the final composition. I must admit, my point of view when completing the sketches was not traditional, thus causing a unique final appearance. In order to make a collage on the final composition, I gathered recycled pieces of art, scraps of news paper, metallic paint and different selections of brightly colored paint.
-Title: Hidden Garden Date: 5/17/17 Description: What you see here, is a small piece of scenery. Every piece of this work is made of paper and is connected with only glue. As you can see, the piece is outlined with a ring of grass, has a small bridge, a tree, a lotus flower in the center, and a small pond in the bottom right corner of the piece. I would have to say that the lotus was the piece of the scene that gave me the most trouble because I had to first learn how to make an origami lotus and secondly find the correctly-sized paper. The tree in the top right corner is made of a past project of mine that was made to represent unity in the community. All together, the piece has a simplistic feeling to it and has a balance that is interrupted by the empty bottom left corner. The empty space is supposed to represent a missing link within society. (This missing link is the disconnection that humans are beginning to have with nature and how the human soul is missing the beauty of the wild.)
